The cruise passenger traffic reached 3,200,757 people in the first six months of the year, an increase of 17.7% over the same period in 2010. 68% of those passengers docked in a Spanish port in the Mediterranean between Barcelona and the Balearic Islands that takes the cake, with over a million and a half between the two ports. They are very experienced significant increases in the Bay of Cadiz and Malaga, 36 and 33% respectively.
Among the ports of the Atlantic, highlighting the island of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, totaling 819,304 passengers overall, with average growth of 30%. Among the Atlantic peninsula, which reached 211,224 passengers, average increases were at 40%, highlighting Vigo and A Coruña, with 109,600 and 42,889 passengers respectively.
As reported by the agency Ports, the increase of passengers does not correspond with the ship arrived at the Spanish coast, since 1632 these characteristics boats docked at our ports in the first quarter represented an increase of 9.6% compared to 2010. This confirms that the ships are getting larger and with more capacity.
The average capacity of a cruise today is about 2,000 passengers, although the last ships to be launched this number reaches almost double, as the case supertrasatlánticos as Queen Mary 2 or Disney Magic, which between crew and transport passengers around 3,700 people each way.
By region, Barcelona was one of three tourists who passed through Spanish ports. Closely follows the Canaries, with 819,304 passengers, although in this case are divided between the six ports that manage the Port Authority of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
