Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, studies to open a hotel in Barcelona with a their cor-brand Intercontinental, in a move that is an absolute priority for the IHG team in Spain.
IHG currently has only two establishments in Barcelona (Holiday Inn Express City 22 @ and the Holiday Inn Express Molins de Rei) of the total of 32 establishment which has its portfolio in Spain. Both hotels in Barcelona are in their economic brand.
"We are 'under-positioned' in Barcelona with great brands," shows Kylko Versteeg, director of development for Spain and Portugal, IHG. "Barcelona has grown a lot. Our priority now in Europe is to have a 'core-brand' in Barcelona”, he added in remarks to Preferente.
IHG's interest in land with Intercontinental in Barcelona brand is so strong that the hotel group plans to do with a leased facility, unlike usual at IHG, where up to 74 percent of its rooms are franchised and only owns 1 percent of its portfolio.
